Children's Heart Support Network (CHSN)

Children's Heart Support Network (CHSN) is the new name for the registered charity formally known as Wessex Children's Heart Circle (WCHC).

CHSN is a registered charity who are based on the South Coast. They are a voluntary self-help support group for families who have or have had a child with a heart condition.

They were founded as WCHC in 1988 by parents of children with heart disorders and is run entirely by voluntary help and donations. In 2012, they changed their name and structure to reflect the changing style of support that families seek and the changing face of Paediatric Cardiac Surgery in England and Wales.

They aim to support children with heart disorders and their families whilst they undergo the traumas of discovering a heart problem and subsequent surgery or other treatment, ongoing permanent problems, or, sadly, sometimes bereavement.

They provide support in a number of different ways from putting heart families in contact with one another, providing information on hospitalisation and practical help with finances at the time of hospitalisation through welfare payments. They also fundraise to provide hospital equipment and other items for children that might make life more comfortable during their stay and they also fund cardiac research.

The CHSN is entirely reliant upon donations and fundraising efforts by its members and supporters; as well as voluntary help for its activities. The CHSN is entirely run by volunteers.
